Hip Rotation

Hip Rotation instead of Shoulder Rotation All rotational motions are
done with the hips instead of the shoulders.

Typical martial arts aerobics will rotate the shoulders while the hips remain
in place. This stresses the back and affects balance. If the shoulders
are used to throw punches, chops, etc., the shoulder moves forward
of the hip and throws off the balance point.

If the hips are used instead then the larger muscle groups are utilized
giving a far more intense workout and maintains balance. Utilizing
muscle groups in proportion to their size increases the heart rate
maximizing the aerobic workout.

This type of motion will use the muscles in descending order of size.
This means that the gluteus muscles will be worked the hardest,
then the hamstring, thigh, and calf. The upper body is worked also,
but maximizing the lower body workout will maximize aerobic workout,
as the heart will need to work harder to supply blood to the larger
muscle groups.
