Jabs and Punches

Jabs and Punches

Punches, if done properly can work the whole body. They should
incorporate the lower body as well as the upper. The lower body
acts as the foundation from which the punch is thrown from. If
the body moves as a complete unit then the punch is actually powered
by the legs and Posterior.

If done improperly, punches can cause injury to the arm and put
a large amount of strain on the back. Learning proper form is
not only critical to preventing injury but also in enhancing a
workout. Proper form will utilize more muscles, of course this
will give you a better workout and more powerful punches.

We will divide this lesson into two sections with subsections.
The first section will cover proper execution of the side fist,
the ramshead punch, and the rolling reverse punch. Three punches
which will work the muscles slightly differently. The second section
will cover footwork to be used with these punches. The first being
the square horse, already covered briefly. The second will cover
what we call the Shou Shu slide, an advanced footwork which is
an intense full body workout.
